Conferences on Policy Issues in the Fragile Lakes
and Lake Basins of East Africa

With funding from other sources, we seek a larger and longer-term comparative study of these African, and possibly Latin American lakes, by a core of Third World and other natural and social scientists. A series of conferences and workshops will convene biological and social scientists with relevant government ministries responsible for lakes and water resources policies. In these meetings of "owning nation experts," we seek to identify policies urgently needed now without further research, targeted research mandated by identified problems, and human resources and training required to implement these policies and research programs and to monitor the lakes and basins.

This conference program was launched in 1994 with The Symposium and Conference on Africa's Fragile Lakes
