Academics

Undergraduate and graduate students at MSU work with more than 150 faculty specialists on Africa in 45 departments across the campus.

Undergraduate students can enroll in either a major or specialization focusing on Africa and can study abroad in Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Senegal, and South Africa.

Graduate students conduct research about Africa as part of master’s and doctoral programs in many departments and also can earn a Concentration in African Studies. Fellowship opportunities include Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships (available to U.S. students) and Compton Africa Peace Fellowships for dissertation research (available to African students).
