The Memorial for Kim in Baltimore

by Lane Smith
August 2006

A weekend to celebrate Kimberly Perez was held on 8/25-27/06 . . . as she was held, in our arms when we were lucky enough to be with her, and in our hearts – forever!!

The venue was my house (HOME, to all in attendance) in our country’s/in my city’s most historic area:  Federal Hill, which overlooks the composition-site  of our “Star Spangled Banner.” And, I dare say, the weekend’s content met its venue!

Friday night, those who met for Dinner (see picture 1) were from Fletcher; making new friends brought special pleasure to Chris Seremet and me. Who is Chris? . . . a Maryland RPCV destined to spend his future with Kim. (For details, contact him at seremetcc@yahoo.com.)

Kim’s mass (See picture 2) remains an unforgettable experience – the ‘keyboard serenading’ being spread through / to the orb, by vocal and drum accompaniment . . . as must have Kim into celestial dancing! The Mass itself what I term ‘a Quaker Mass’ because Fr. Lawrence allowed – indeed, welcomed – heartfelt interlocution. Cardinal William H. Keeler (See picture 3 a&b) sent regards!

Saturday’s events were attended mostly by (See pictures 4 and 5) RSAII co-volunteers . . and Sunday was a shared experience by Chris and Lane (See picture 6) only.  On the other hand, numerous call-in friends made their ‘presence’ known. All of you know who you are; THANX FOR BEING DISTANT CELEBRANTS. And, THANK YOU KIM – for being still among us . . and, by your presents/presence, cementing our friendships.
