The Life of Kim Perez

As Kim Perez remembered in her personal journal, Abraham Lincoln once noted that it is not the number of years you live but the quality of those years.

Kim Perez lived only 30 chronological years, but she packed those years with friendships, much travel across the globe, a series of striking personal and academic accomplishments, great service to humanity, and a life of personal caring for so many individuals and for the world. (California poet Kenneth Patchen noted that "Caring is the only daring.")

This website seeks to capture a small glimpse of Kim's life - her family, her childhood, college and university years, her Peace Corps service, her academic work, and the remembrances of her by so many friends.

We mourn the loss of Kim Perez in this tragic accident especially because it seems that never ever has the world needed so much a new generation of leaders, especially of women who so innovatively combine the personal and the political, knowing that Kim was the model of such. But we not only grieve this loss - but we celebrate who this woman was and was becoming.
