Partnerships in Africa
MSU's engagement in Africa began in 1960 with a partnership to build Africa's first land-grant university, the University of Nigeria (Nsukka). African studies developed at MSU out of this engagement on the continent of more than 200 person-years of faculty time. Partnerships with African colleagues and institutions still are essential to strengthening MSU's scholarship about Africa and contributing to high-priority research of African colleagues. Collaborating with African partners also is crucial to addressing African development needs.
Significant MSU partnerships have developed during the past 40 years in many parts of the continent, including especially Ethiopia, Malawi, Mali, Senegal, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.

The ASC Core and Consulting faculty and Advisory Committee are engaging in discussions about how the call to expand MSU's international reach as part of its new Boldness by Design strategic initiative can best benefit Africa.
