Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Convocation is scheduled
for Monday, January 21, 2002.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Julianne Malveaux, Scholar, Writer and

2002 Study
Abroad Fair
The MSU Office of Study Abroad is having their Spring Study Abroad
Fair on Wednesday, January 30, 2002.
The Fair will give participants the opportunity to get to know the
program Professors; Network with former participants; See artifacts,
photos, slides and videotapes; Speak with College academic advisers
and financial aid representatives; and Win prizes. The Study Abroad
Fair will be on the Second Floor of the MSU Union, from 2:00 p.m.

World Museum

2 to February 10, 2002 the African World Museum presents
it's first Artist in Residence and African Handicrafts exhibit.
Artist include Master Carver Nii, Amartey Laryea, AAT& C Company
Ltd., of the "Y" Junction in Aburi, Ghana, West Africa.

focus lies in humanities, with several sessions devoted to various

Midwest Graduate Student Conference
The Graduate
Students in African Studies and the African Studies Initiative of
the Center for Afroamerican and African Studies (CAAS) at the University
of Michigan are pleased to extend an open invitation to graduate
students to participate in the 7th Annual Midwest Graduate Student
Conference in African Studies, to be held at the University of Michigan
in Ann Arbor, March 22-24, 2002.
The Conference title is "Critical Approaches in African Studies:
Conversations Across Disciplines." Graduate students from all
disciplines and at all stages of their careers are invited to present
their work in a friendly and collegial atmosphere.
Participants
from all colleges and universities are welcome. Those from Midwestern
institutions are particularly encouraged to participate. As in the
past, contributions may take various forms: research proposals and
papers; preliminary results of research/field data; methodological,
theoretical or conceptual papers; thesis and dissertation chapters,
either in process or complete; term papers, etc.
Please
submit a short abstract (200 words) by January 15, 2002.
Be sure to include: your name, paper title, institutional affiliation,
address, phone number, an E-mail address. Panel or roundtable proposals
are also welcome. Acceptance notices will
be sent by February 1 and papers are due March 1, 2002.

The South Eastern
Regional Seminar on African Studies (SERSAS) is pleased to announce
a preliminary call for its Spring 2002 conference to be hosted at
Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia on
March 22-23, 2002. The theme for the conference will
be identities and economies in Africa, however this call for papers
is open to all disciplines and topics in African studies.

of Concern
The Center of
Concern offers hope for creating a global society with economic
justice for all. The Center is committed to creating a world where
all economic structures and policies guarantee the dignity and the
basic rights of every member of the human family.
Interns will
work for the new gender, trade and development Project. Graduate
and junior/senior undergraduate students as well as recent college
graduates are encouraged to apply. Interns must have a degree or
concentration in gender, economics (with an interest in gender and
international trade), and/or international affairs; good verbal
and written skills. Interns are integral to the work of the global
Women's project and are expected to handle administrative tasks,
research information for the department and help with program work.
Interns are asked to commit to the project for two to three days
a week. Transportation and lunch are provided. Please mail/fax cover

Cross-Cultural Psychology - Ohio University
The Department
of Psychology at Ohio University invites applications for a tenure-track
position in Cross-Cultural Psychology. They are seeking an individual
who conducts programmatic research in cross-cultural psychology
or with diverse populations. Preference will be given to candidates
whose research program has a strong potential for external funding
and whose research area falls within one of the department's existing
areas of strength, i.e., health psychology, the design and evaluation
of psychological interventions, or social judgment and decision-making.
Ohio University
has several international studies programs, including federally
funded centers in Southeast Asia Studies and African Studies. The
Department of Psychology has established collaborative relationships
with psychology departments outside of North America. Preference
will be given to candidates who can help the department to strengthen
its ties with the university's international studies programs and/or
with it's international partners. The successful candidate is expected
to develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in cross-cultural
psychology and must be qualified to teach the diversity course required
of all clinical doctoral students. Candidates should send a letter
of application, curriculum vitae, copies of recent publications,
a statement of research interests, and three letters of recommendation
to: Cross-Cultural Psychology Search Committee, Department of Psychology,
Ohio University, Athens, Ohio 45701-2979. Review
of applications will begin February 15, 2002.
